
ROBERT HERZ

Robert Herz is an internationally renowned expert on accounting, capital markets, sustainable business operations, and financial reporting. He served as Chairman of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) from 2002 to 2010 and was one of the original members of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). Herz was a member of the Standing Advisory Group of the U.S. Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) from 2012 to 2020, and was a Board member of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board Foundation (SASB) from 2014 to 2021. From 2010 to 2023, Herz was an Executive-in-Residence at Columbia Business School. Earlier in his career, he was a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Herz has participated in numerous committees and task forces, including the Audit Committee Chair Advisory Council of the National Association of Corporate Directors, the G7 Impact Task Force, and the International Foundation for Valuing Impacts. Herz served on the board of the Value Reporting Foundation, formed in 2021 through the merger of SASB and the International Integrated Reporting Council, after many years of involvement with both organizations. He chaired the AICPA SEC Regulations Committee and the Transnational Auditors Committee of the International Federation of Accountants. He was also a member of the International Capital Markets Advisory Committee of the New York Stock Exchange and the American Accounting Association’s Financial Accounting Standards Committee.
Currently, Herz serves on the board of directors of Morgan Stanley (Chair, Audit Committee), Workiva Inc., and the International Foundation for Valuing Impact. He also sits on the advisory boards of AccountAbility and RS Metrics. Through his firm, Robert H. Herz LLC, he provides consulting services on financial reporting and related matters.
Additionally, Herz is the author or co-author of seven books and more than 80 articles and papers, and is a frequent speaker at major financial reporting and business conferences. He is a member of the Accounting Hall of Fame and a recipient of numerous honors, including the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) for lifetime contributions to the profession and society.
